So, my boyfriend Michael is currently about to begin his last semester of Graduate School for Environmental + Transportation Planning and I’m in charge of branding him for future employment. It’s a tough job market out there, so we thought it would be great to give him some killer marketing materials including a resume, business cards, and potentially a leave behind of some sorts. The thing is, no matter WHAT profession you’re in, it doesn’t hurt to have good branding.

Now let me tell you : this board is extremely Michael. It was actually really fun to work with him on picking out images that “fit” the aesthetic we’re going for. We’re calling this look Moonrise Kingdom-esque with a bit of quirk. We’ll be working on this one faster than normal, so I hope to share the final results with you shortly!

  1. Looks great! Am curious about the final products.
    Love Vredenburg

  2. Leanda says:

I love that you’re branding your bf!! Hope he’s an easy client! Look forward to seeing the results (for some reason I’m getting the ‘I’m A Lumberjack’ song from Monty Python in my head :))

  3. Anne says:

Manliest mood board I ever did see! Excited to see the results of this one

  4. What a great inspiration board. I love seeing inspiration boards for branding men because they aren’t shared as much. I look forward to seeing the final product.

  5. Jamy says:

I love it. I can’t wait to see the final project!
I’m sending you a request based on this.

  6. Nesha says:

i love seeing an inspiration board for men!

I’m going to be designing a website for my bf’s woodwork business sometime this year, and can’t wait! I don’t usually get to work with many men.

I’m sure your partner’s branding will turn out superb! can’t wait to see how it turns out!

  7. anna k. says:

Your branding will get him a super job in no time, that’s for sure! And by the way, men (of all ages) are awsome in a pretty beard!

  8. What a great idea! I kind of want to make a moodboard for my husband, now, too!

  9. Anna says:

Looks great! Being Danish I Just want to let you know, that “do” with a cross trough the “o” means “die” in Scandinavia…:)

  10. joy @ OSS says:

This is such a great idea. This is awesome and I can’t wait to see it soon!

  11. Kory says:

Wow! This looks really cool. My boyfriend is about to graduate too (undergrad though), and I never thought how great of an idea it would be to design some awesome stuff to help him get a job! I might have to snatch up this idea, Bre. Can’t wait to see what you create, as usual, though! :)

  12. JP says:

I LOVE this one. Very masculine + vintage/hipster. He seems like a cool dude.

  13. adela says:

couldn’t agree more that no matter what your industry is, branding is super important. people outside of the ‘creative’ industries often sneer at anything too ‘designer-y’ but the truth is that everybody gets a subconscious first impression of a brand / person / company / potential client / potential employee… based on their visual presentation. i am currently working on my own branding so hav been thinking about this a lot…
good luck, can’t wait to see the results of this!
    xo adela

  14. Gosh, can’t wait to see what you come up with. I also tried designing my boyfriend’s personal brand and we’re still trying to get everything together. Tough stuff.

    • bre says:

Cool! I hope it goes smoothly. Haven’t started after this yet because of a busy schedule, but let’s cross our fingers we don’t fight about it. ;)

  15. Love the look and feel of this design board. Love the manly and environmental feel mixed with a bit of hipster. Can’t wait to see what you come up with!

  16. anni says:

Does he have a brother my age? ;)

  17. Love this! It almost makes looking for a job fun!

  18. Mel says:

I love your boards! But your Boyfriend also has some flare there as well :) I’m really digging those colours!

  19. Bre–this is such a good idea, I’ve been kind of wanting to do this for my boyfriend whose been looking for a job since this summer. How’d you convince your guy it’s a good idea? Mine thinks it’s totally unnecessary :(

  20. Lauren says:

just wanted to thank you so much for sharing here so consistently. every day, it’s a little joy to open up your blog. your taste is amazing, your talent obvious, and your advice always encouraging. :)

  21. lena says:

Well, this is a different moodboard, very cool! That is such a good idea and I’m sure there won’t be many competitors in his field out there with the kind of marketing materials you’ll come up with! You’re really taking branding to another level there. And I agree with the other comments: So refreshing to see this masculine board!

  22. Anita says:
