I wanted to choose a topic this week that was related to one of the many things I learned at the Design Life retreat this past weekend. More on that trip tomorrow, folks … but for now, let’s talk about being amazing!
As a freelancer, you’ll wear many hats. Seriously though, like fifty. I firmly believe that because entrepreneurs are so self-motivated, they have a hard time saying no or reaching out for help. When it’s your business, it’s extremely difficult to let go of that precious control, no matter how stressed or overwhelmed you may be. Don’t worry – if you find yourself in this place, you’re not alone. Almost every person at our retreat expressed worry on this exact issue, including myself.
Take a look at your business. What is it that you LOVE doing?? For me, I could get lost in branding, website design & art direction. They’re my favorites. Coding development, on the other hand, is last on my list. I’ve started to take steps to outsource these projects as I know there are many talented individuals out there that have this at the very tippity top of their list. Why not utilize them!?
My point is – don’t spread yourself thin. Don’t be “just okay” at a bunch of things. Be AMAZING at just a few. People will recognize your passion and come to you for those very things. Plus, in the long haul, you’ll love what you’re doing a whole lot more. I’m not at this point yet. Getting there takes time and patience. That reign of control needs to loosen up a bit so that you can take the path you’re meant to take.
